Is Channel Mandatory When Installing Vinyl Lattice?
When you ask us, the manufacturer of the DuraShell® and Decorative 3D lattice if you have to use channel, we need to know more about your project.
Permalatt has suggestions for installation but not a set in stone method. You see, every project is different. Oh sure, there are the common projects, but with so many ideas and ways to use lattice, the installation process varies.
Common Projects
One common project is using lattice as a fence topper.
Some of the rails used for fencing come slotted so the lattice slides into the rail. Some do not. Most of the post used for fencing do not come slotted. So as you can see, the u-channel is beneficial in aligning the lattice sheet along the post and rails.
When using lattice as deck skirting you can use the channel or install the lattice without the channel.
Notice the channel used for the deck skirting guides the top of the lattice sheet with the deck board. It also keeps it steady next to the landscaping. When two channels are used on the end of the sheet it not only frames each sheet, it can create a nice look for the corners.
If you choose not to use the channels you can install the lattice on the front side of the post, or on the back side. It depends on the look you want.
The same if you add a privacy screen to your deck.
The use of a channel is beneficial on capping the top of the lattice sheet and guiding it along a rail or post. Or some will just frame the lattice sheet between two boards.
These are just a few of the common projects where you can either install the lattice with the use of the channels or install without using channels.
At Permalatt Products, Inc. we offer u-channels and h-channels for the DuraShell® lattice and u-channels for the Decorative 3D lattice. Are they required? As you can see the answer is no. Not required, but maybe suggested depending on the look you want and how the lattice is being used.
